Education is a word that is very common. Therefore, it may be said that every person familiar with the term education. Likewise, Islamic Education (PAI). Ordinary people perceive education is synonymous with the school, giving lessons, training the children and so on. The others have the perception that education involves a very wide variety of aspects, including all the experience gained in the formation and maturation of the child's personality, whether committed by others or by themselves. While Islamic education is an education based on Islamic values and contains the teachings of Islam.
Education as a scientific discussion is difficult to define. Even the first international conference on education
Muslim (1977), as proposed by Muhammad al-Naquib al-Attas, it has not managed to formulate a definition of education that can be agreed upon by experts unanimously education. Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2003 on National Education System Article 1, paragraph 1 states that: "Education is a conscious and deliberate effort to create an atmosphere of learning and the learning process so that learners are actively developing the potential for him to have the spiritual strength of religious, self-control , personality, intelligence, noble character, and skills needed him, society, nation and state ".
While the definition of Islamic religious education is mentioned in the 2004 curriculum Competency Standards Subjects Islamic Education Elementary and MI is: "Islamic religious education is a conscious and deliberate effort to prepare students to know, understand, appreciate, believing, pious, noble, the teachings Islam of the main sources of the holy book the Koran and Hadith, through guidance, teaching, training, and use of the experience. " Meanwhile, according to Ahmad Tafsir, Islamic Education is a conscious effort to prepare students to understand the teachings of Islam (knowing), skilled conduct or practice Islam (doing), and practice the teachings of Islam in daily life (being). From the definition above can be understood that the purpose of Islamic education is to enhance the understanding of Islam, practice skills, and improve the practice of Islamic teachings in everyday life. So in summary it can be said that the main purpose of Islamic education is religious, that being a Muslim with religious intensity that is based on sincerity and strong faith. Efforts to realize the human figure as contained in the above definition of education is not realized suddenly. Efforts should go through the process of education and life, especially religious education and religious life.
The process lasts a lifetime, in the family, school and community environments. One of the problems faced by Islamic religious education at this time, is how the delivery of the religious subject matter to students so as to obtain maximum results. When we consider in the process of development of Islamic Education, one of the most prominent problems in the implementation of religious education is the problem of methodology. The method is a very important and inseparable from all other educational components, such as goals, materials, evaluation, and other situations. Therefore, the implementation of Religious Education requires a knowledge of the methodology of Religious Education, with the aim that every religious educators can gain understanding and ability as a professional educator teachers of Islamic education is still lacking an integrated use several methods. Most teachers prefer to and accustomed to apply the method in its delivery lectures are often drab learners. This is due to the teachers do not master or reluctant to use appropriate methods, so as not to touch the religious learning aspects and psychological paedagogis. Every teacher of Islamic education should have enough knowledge about the various methods that can be used in certain situations appropriately. Teachers should be able to create a situation that can facilitate the achievement of educational goals. Creates a situation means providing motivation in order to attract students to the religious education delivered by teachers. Because the student must achieve that goal, then he should be interested in achieving that goal. To attract that a teacher must possess and implement appropriate learning methodologies.
The methodology is a systematic effort to achieve the goal, therefore the necessary knowledge about the destination itself. The aim should be formulated clearly before someone determines and learning methods will be used. Due to the vagueness in the objectives to be achieved, leading to difficulties in selecting and determining the appropriate method. Each subject has its own peculiarities in material or subject matter, both the nature and purpose, so that the methods used were different between the subjects with other subjects. For example, in terms of the purpose and nature of tawhid lessons are talking about the problem priesthood, certainly more philosophical, of the lessons of jurisprudence, such as about prayer example of a practical nature and emphasis on the skills. Therefore, the way they are presented or the methods used should be different. Apart from the specificity of the nature and purpose of the subject matter that can differentiate in the use of the method, also factors age, level thinking skills, types of educational institutions, as well as the ability of teachers to personal differences, and different means or facilities in terms of both quality and quantity. It is all very affecting teachers in selecting appropriate methods in order to achieve educational goals.
